Horizontal Drilling

Horizontal drilling has long been used in straight pipeline corridors that can't be excavated (highways, take–offs etc.). The equipment used for horizontal drilling allows the user to create a drill pass of up to 1.7 metres in diameter, and up to 70 metres in length.

		The hydraulic boring machine moves on special rails that are set up directly in front of the obstacle. With the help of an auger and cutting head the machine bores an opening, removes the soil, and pushes a metal pipe casing inside the area of the tunnel that has been created.

		Next, a new section is welded to the external edge of the pipe casing, thus allowing the machine to continue boring deeper inside the tunnel.

This process repeats until the obstacle has been traversed.
