Pipeline Repair

Planned repair of damaged sections of pipelines is normally performed by employing one of the following technologies:

  • cut out and replacement of a damaged section of pipe;
  • welding a steel sleeve on to a damaged section of pipe;
  • welding a specially designed steel sleeve on to a damaged section of pipe into which an epoxy–based compound
    is injected into the annular space between the sleeve
    and the pipe surface;
  • build up of metal using electric arc welding or welding
    of patches.

These technologies, as a rule, are both expensive and labor–intensive, because they require a major investment in labor including hot processes with the deployment of much equipment.

However, certain pipeline defects do not require such repair methods. The use of Clock Spring repair sleeves is a real alternative.

In cases where more complex pipeline repairs are required on a live line, hot tapping methods can be used. .
