Hot Tapping

Hot tapping is a means by which access is made to the inside of an operational pipeline, using either a drill
or a circular cutter, without spillage.

Applications include:

• repair of pipeline itself (cutting out and replacing a section)
  or its components (e.g. a valve) without shutdown,
• attachment of a branch connection to the line,
• installation of an internal probe or monitor,
• stopping or redirecting flow in a line for maintenance or repair purposes.

Taps can also be done in tanks.

Hot tapping can be done on steel, cast iron, stainless steel, concrete, asbestos–cement, plastic and other types of pipes.
